    Avira etc.

This is just a listing of popular antivirus programs on Android. Readers, for real world performance, please Google and be prepared to see better alternatives.

If you have done any work on overall performance.. Plz my friend i wud suggest you to use & add BitDefender & Norton mobil security. The lightest among all u have listed, BitDefender works & protects without slowing down & draining battery, which is most important thing for a smartphn user, where one manages to keep battery for atleast 1 or 1n half day…. i hope u & all other will take a look..

Nice article but this is the first roundup of AVs that didn’t have Avast listed. With the raft of features it offers for free no list is complete w/out it. Also, TrustGo was just recently rated top mobile AV by For a lighter AV, I really like Zoner, which is packed w/all that most will need while not taking up much internal memory. Lastly, Hornet AV, a German company, is ultra light yet gets high ratings from users.

I would like to suggest some more anti-viruses for Android smartphones.
McAfee is the one you can rely on. It has given good results for me. BullGuard and NQ mobile security aren’t too bad.

  39. TopTechBytes July 7, 2013 at 2:53 am - Reply

You should have included the Avast antivirus because its scanning system works really fast and it doesn’t slow my device. And McAfee antivirus is useless because they are not free and will only give us a 14 day trial.

I can’t understand it, Android is based on Linux it’s not really necessary to have an antivirus. On a windows phone you would need a good antivirus program, but for Android no I don’t think so. Linux is the best!

Although i’ve used Avast and Lookout Antivirus on my Galaxy S2, i feel that Avast wins the race together with it’s memory footprint and many other features. Anyways Android malwares are still much less in number compared to windows and not something to be worried of too much at this stage but might be the case 2 years later. So it might be a better idea to stay protected.
